HarbourCats Split First Two Games in Kitsap
June 25, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release
The Victoria HarbourCats had a chance to post their first three-game winning streak of this young season -- well, work will have to start on that again.
The HarbourCats, who won on Father's Day at home against Cowlitz and hung on for a 5-4 win over Kitsap in the series-starter against the BlueJackets, dropped a 6-2 score on Wednesday night, dropping the team's record to 7-10 on the season.
The good news is that the West Division remains tight, and the HarbourCats are just 3.5 games out of first place -- held by the Bellingham Bells at 11-7.
Ace right-hander Alex Rogers had his roughest outing of the season, tagged for his first loss of 2015 (3-1). Rogers gave up 10 hits and four earned runs in four innings of work, striking out four and -- no surprise -- failing to offer a free pass.
Kitsap, in front of a crowd of 160, built a 4-1 lead through five innings, surrendered a Victoria run, then added single runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Kitsap outhit Victoria 16-6, and the HarbourCats didn't help much with three errors, one more than the two hits by the BlueJackets. Michael Gretler had two of the Victoria hits, and Austin Guibor had a triple and a run. Eight of nine Kitsap hitters managed at least one hit.
The HarbourCats will send RHP Matt Blais to the mound tonight (Thursday) in Kitsap, to end the three-game road series.
The HarbourCats are home this weekend for an exciting series against the team with the best name in the West Coast League -- the Wenatchee AppleSox.
