DANBURY, CT - Connecticut Whale general manager Bray Ketchum today announced the signing of three key players for the upcoming NWHL season: forward/defender Hanna Beattie, defender Taylor Marchin, and forward Katelynn Russ.

The versatile Beattie will be entering her fourth season with the Whale after playing at Williams College, where she captained the team in her junior and senior years. In 2019-20, Beattie had three goals and three assists in 22 regular season games, and had two assists in the Isobel Cup Playoffs.

"Hanna is the type of player every team wants in their lineup," said Ketchum. "She rose to the occasion last season when we put her on defense, and she found her scoring touch in big moments."

A steady and physical defender, Marchin will be playing her third NWHL season. She had three assists in the regular season, and one in the playoffs. She joined Connecticut after one season with Kunlun Red Star of the CWHL and a strong collegiate career at Yale, where she earned Second-Team All-Ivy League honors and a share of the team MVP award as a senior. In 123 games with the Bulldogs, Marchin recorded 57 points on 21 goals and 36 assists.

"Taylor has been part of the backbone of the Whale defense," said Ketchum. "She is reliable and loves to compete."

Russ joined the Whale for the final two games of the 2019-20 regular season, and then broke out with a star performance in which she scored two goals and added an assist in Connecticut's victory in Buffalo in the Isobel Cup Play-In game. From 2016 - 2020, she played 135 games at Union College. Her best offensive season was as a sophomore, when Russ led the team with 16 goals and 24 points.

"Russ is a force up front," said Ketchum. "She's strong, she's a great skater and she loves to shoot. Expect a lot of goals from her in her first full year in the NWHL. The Whale are really proud to have Katelyn, Taylor and Hanna set to return next season."
