Alabama Hammers News Release
The Alabama Hammers return to the confines of the Von Braun Center this Saturday, June 14, for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff versus the Trenton Freedom in game 10 of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) season. This is the first of three consecutive home games for the Hammers with additional games scheduled for June 21 and 27.
The Hammers were on the short end of its game last week losing to the Columbus Lions 39-31. The Freedom won its fifth consecutive game with a 57-49 victory over the Harrisburg Stampede.
"Offensively, we played poorly as we had too many penalties," said Dean Cokinos head coach of the Hammers. "On defense, we had two turnovers and five total stops and scored one touchdown. With that kind of performance on defense you should win the game in arena football."
The Freedom (7-2) come into the first meeting with the Hammers (3-6) in first place in the National Division of the PIFL Conference. The Freedom average 50-points and 252-yards per game and possess the best record in the league.
For the Hammers, Coach Cokinos knows the road to the playoffs is an uphill one, but has confidence the Hammers can make the plays it needs in the last three games of the regular season. "Heading down the final stretch, we still can control our own destiny," said Cokinos. "We have three home games and will have to approach each game like the one this Saturday against the Freedom as a play-off game. There is still a lot of football to be played."
The game versus the Freedom will be available on the Hammers Radio Network, which is broadcast on WAFN-FM, 92.7 Fun Radio-Arab, WZZN-FM, 97.7 The Zone-Huntsville and WWIC-AM, 1050-Scottsboro. Michael St. John and Steve Moulton will handle the play-by-play.
