Hammers Preparing for Saturday's PIFL Showdown Against Richmond at VBC

HUNTSVILLE - The Alabama Hammers will close out the 2013 home schedule with the Richmond Raiders coming tothe Von Braun Center on Saturday for a 7 p.m. kickoff in ProfessionalFootball League action.

It's Community Appreciation Nightpresented by Landers McLarty Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram. Free ticketvouchers to the game are available at Landers DCJR on UniversityDrive West, Geico on Old Madison Pike, Minuteman Food Stores,Calhoun Community College, Alabama A&M and at Huntsville Hospital/TOC.

The Hammers (7-2) are coming off a63-22 home thrashing of the Louisiana Swashbucklers in Week 13 andcurrently hold a one and half game lead over the Raiders (6-4) forfirst place in the PIFL standings.

The two teams met earlier this seasonin Week 2 at Richmond, with the Hammers pulling off an impressive65-23 victory. The Hammers picked up a pair of PIFL honors after thegame, with quarterback Russell Hill winning the Offensive Player ofthe Week while linebacker Jake Trantin brought home Defensive Playerof the Week honors. Hill completed an impressive 30-of-40 passes for340 yards and nine touchdowns while Trantin posted seven tackles, onepass break-up, two sacks and a safety while holding the Raiders tojust 23 points and 170 yards of total offense.

The Hammers enter the game with the topscoring offense (59.0 PPG) and the league's top scoring defense(43.7 PPG). Quarterback Russell Hill leads the league with 52touchdown passes while wide receiver Mico McSwain continues to leadthe league in receiving yards (974), receiving yards per game (108.2)and receiving touchdowns (28).

The Raiders have lost two of their lastthree games, all of which have gone into overtime. In last week's69-63 triple overtime loss to the Albany Panthers, Richmond turnedthe ball over via an interception in the third overtime to seal thevictory for Albany.
