Hammers Land Pair of Players on PIFL Weekly Honor Roll

Alabama Hammers News Release

HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Alabama Hammers have placed a pair of players on the Professional Indoor Football League's weekly honor roll following their dominating 70-43 victory at Columbus on Saturday. Recently-signed defensive back Cortez Stubbs has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week and all-around threat Charles McClain earned the Special Team's award.

Stubbs (5-foot-9, 185 pounds) made an immediate impact on defense after he was traded from Knoxville three days prior. The former Concordia College standout had a pair of fumble recoveries - one being a scoop and score from 30 yards out that made it a 20-point game early in the fourth quarter - and an interception in the end zone that thwarted a second-quarter drive by the Lions. Stubbs also had three tackles.

Former North Alabama start McClain (5-9, 185) had a very solid night for the Hammers with 228 all-purpose yards. He caught nine receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown, had a 50-yard kickoff return for a touchdown midway through the third quarter that helped Alabama improve to 6-2 and maintain a solid grip on first place in the PIFL.

The Hammers travel to Louisiana on Saturday before playing host to the same Swashbucklers on June 1 at the Von Braun Center. Alabama will celebrate Military Appreciation Night and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
