Hammers Fall To Raiders
April 5, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Alabama Hammers News Release
The Alabama Hammers were held scoreless in the second quarter while the Richmond Raiders tallied 31-points in the stanza and moved on to a 60-45 win over the Hammers in game two of the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) in Richmond Saturday night. The Hammers are now 1-1 while Richmond is 1-2 on the season.
Hammers' quarterback Garrett Sutphen was 18 of 46 and 287 yards in passing, but also had five passes intercepted by the Raiders with one of those a pick-six. On the receiving end of the passes, Mico McSwain was tops with 10 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown while teammate Charles McClain brought in five catches for 110 yards and two TDs.
"Richmond just steam-rolled us in that second quarter and we couldn't stop them," said Scott Sharp, Hammers' head coach. "We had six turnovers on the night, which was a big part of the game, but with that many turnovers you can't win in this league."
This weekend, the Hammers host the Nashville Venom for its home opener on Saturday, April 11 with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. at the Von Braun Center. The Hammers kicked off the 2015 season two weeks ago in Nashville by defeating the Venom 34-26.
"Our positive mindset and competitive spirit in the second half against Richmond was good, but we got into such a big hole, especially in that second quarter, we couldn't pull ourselves out of that hole we put ourselves in," added Sharp.
The Hammers will also host the 2015 Open House on Tuesday, April 7, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the Bud Light Pub inside the Von Braun Center. Players and coaches and cheerleaders from the Hammers will be there for a meet and greet. The media is welcome to drop by. Live broadcasts are encouraged.
