Hammers Fall To Freedom

Holding close through the first half, the Alabama Hammers were nailed by 24 unanswered points through the second, third and fourth quarters by the Trenton Freedom and ended up on the short end of a 57-36 score to the visiting Freedom at the Von Braun Center on Friday night. The Hammers fall to 3-4 while Trenton rises to 3-3 on the season of play in the Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL).

The Hammers used two quarterbacks, starter Garrett Sutphen (14-34-1/217) and backup Anthony Speight (6-8-2/70) for four passing scores while utilizing three main receivers, two of which, Mico McSwain and Maurice Dupree, had two scores each.

The visiting Freedom rushed the ball for three scores and passed for three more. Melik Brown scored three touchdowns via the ground attack and quarterback Hunter Wanket tossed for three more in the win.

Each team scored on defense by way of fumble recoveries.

The Hammers begin a three game road trip with stops in Lehigh Valley (May 17), Trenton (May 30) and Erie (June 6) before returning home for two regular season ending games at the Von Braun Center (June 13 and 20).
