Alabama Hammers News Release
HUNTSVILLE -- The Alabama Hammers will have a pair of familiar faces on hand when they report for training camp in late February. Hammers coach Marty has announced that wide receiver Charles McClain and offensive lineman Jeremiah Zene have both re-signed with the team.
"We are fortunate to have Charlie back. He is a multi-purpose threat on offense and he's a huge key on special teams,'' Hammond said. "Any great pass rush is contingent on a push up the middle and Zene gives us that."
A former North Alabama standout, McClain (5-foot-9, 185 pounds) really stood out for the Hammers as a rookie last season. He led the team with 69 receptions for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns, added eight rushing scores and converted once while averaging 22.5 yards on kickoff returns.
Zene (6-6, 345) made an immediate impact after joining Alabama mid season. The Concordia College alumnus total three sacks and nine tackles in just four games before an injury ended his season.
*Open Tryout slated for Oct. 8 *-- The Hammers will hold an open tryout on Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Grissom High School football field located at 7901 Bailey Cove. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. And testing will get under wayat 10 a.m. There is a $45 fee to pre register and the cost is $65 cash the day of the event.
