Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads returned from their road trip to Harrisburg, Penn. Thursday and will now travel to Richmond to take on the Kickers for the second time this season. The teams will face one another at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at City Stadium.
When Wilmington and Richmond last encountered at Legion Stadium in early May, the Kickers walked away with a victory over the Hammerheads after scoring a pair of goals in the second half. Kickers Luke Vercollone converted a penalty kick after a hand ball was called on Hammerheads defense in the box prior to D.C. United loanee Michael Seaton scoring late into the match during his professional debut, giving them the goals needed to secure the win.
The Kickers currently hold an overall record of 6-0-3, making them the only undefeated team in USL PRO at the moment.
Richmond trails the Harrisburg City Islanders four points in the league standings, ranking third. The Hammerheads unfortunately gave Harrisburg the push they needed to stay near the top after they gave up two goals in the second half of Wednesday night's match at Skyline Sports Complex, leaving the final score 2-0.
"It is undeniable that we have had a couple of long weeks on the road," said Hammerheads Head Coach David Irving. "We have given it much effort and energy considering the circumstances that we have been under. Our schedule opens up a bit more in the next few weeks and we are looking for strong results."
Saturday's match can be watched via live stream on UNATION for those unable to attend at City Stadium. Wilmington fans can congregate and catch the match at the Hammerheads' Watch Party Headquarters, Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road, Wilmington.
