Hammerheads Return to Richmond

June 17, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC is scheduled to travel north this weekend for their third encounter against the Richmond Kickers on Saturday, June 20 at City Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

The Hammerheads enter Saturday's match following a 1-0 loss at home against New York Red Bulls II last weekend. As Wilmington struggles to climb up the eastern conference table, Richmond has recently tied in rank with the Charleston Battery for second-place, trailing only four points behind the Rochester Rhinos.

Richmond (6-2-6) welcomed FC Montreal to City Stadium last weekend, playing to a scoreless draw. The Kickers have had no shortage of goal-scorers as Matthew Delicate has tallied six goals in his 13 appearances this season, followed by Jason Yeisley, Brian Ownby, and George Davis IV each with four.

Wilmington (1-7-4) has shown possession and tactical skill during their last several matches, but have fought to find the back of the net. The Hammerheads recently announced they have traded defender Ashani Fairclough to Seattle Sounders FC 2 in exchange for forward Qudus Lawal with hopes of sparking synergy on the attacking line. Lawal is expected to make his debut with the Hammerheads on Saturday.

The Hammerheads hosted the Kickers to a 2-2 draw for their first match of the season in March and soon after traveled to City Stadium in early April where they fell 3-0. Saturday's match is their third and final meeting of the 2015 USL regular season.

Saturday's match between the Hammerheads and the Kickers can be watched live online from the Richmond Kickers' YouTube channel.
