Hammerheads Journey North for Doubleheader
June 6, 2012 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads take their skills on the road this weekend for a doubleheader after their victory last week over Orlando City. The Hammerheads have back-to-back matches ahead of them versus the Rochester Rhinos on Friday, June 8 at 7:35 p.m. at Sahlen's Stadium followed by the Harrisburg City Islanders on Saturday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Skyline Sports Complex.
Friday will be the first encounter between the Hammerheads and the Rhinos this season. Rochester is currently located third in the league rankings - three positions ahead of Wilmington. The Hammerheads and Rhinos will face off for the second time this season on July 12, 2012 at Legion Stadium.
This is the second doubleheader weekend the Hammerheads have been scheduled for this season thus far. The Hammerheads took on the City Islander's as their first home game of the 2012 season back in April and ended the night in a 0-0 draw.
The City Islander's are on a current winning streak as they are still competing in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and moving on into the quarterfinals after upsetting the NY Red Bulls on Tuesday, 3-1. Nonetheless, the Hammerheads are on a high note after defeating the previously undefeated Orlando City Lions last weekend at Legion Stadium.
With player additions Luke Holmes and Corey Hertzog on the field since the last time the Hammerheads and City Islanders met, this encounter could have a positive result for Wilmington.
