Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Hammerheads FC will take on their in-state rival the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, April 26 for their second home match of the 2014 USL PRO regular season. The teams kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium.
The Hammerheads are coming off a bye week following their 4-3 victory versus the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on the road. Forward Sammy Ochoa was named USL PRO's Player of the Week after his performance at Highmark Stadium against the Riverhounds, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist. The match was Ochoa's first appearance with the Hammerheads this season. Midfielders Steven Miller and Daniel Lovitz also found the back of the net tallying one goal each.
"Our rivals from Charlotte have always been a difficult opponent home and away over the years," said Wilmington Hammerheads FC Head Coach David Irving. "They had a strong finish to the 2013 season, they are also coming off a bye week and up until Friday they will have played the same amount of matches this season as we have."
The Hammerheads are scheduled to play on their home turf of Legion Stadium for eight of their next 11 matches.
"It is important for us to secure some points during this upcoming home stretch," said Irving. "Any time you win on the road is certainly a great victory and we brought home that win returning from Pittsburgh."
The Charlotte Eagles are scheduled to face MLS's Chicago Fire Reserves on Friday at University of North Carolina at Charlotte before traveling to Wilmington. The Eagles are also coming off a bye week after hosting the Richmond Kickers in a 2-1 victory at Queen Sports Complex.
