Hammerheads Host Antigua for Final Matchup

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads will host their final match of the USL PRO regular season at Legion Stadium on Saturday, August 17, versus Antigua Barracuda FC as they look to secure the last position in league playoffs.
The Hammerheads claimed a 4-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds on Wednesday night at Legion Stadium that was significant in keeping their playoff hopes alive. Wilmington is currently above VSI Tampa Bay FC for the ninth position in the standings and trailing one point behind the Dayton Dutch Lions. The top eight positions qualify for playoffs.
For the Hammerheads to advance into the postseason, they must hope for more victories Saturday night other than their own. If the Dutch Lions take a victory over the Harrisburg City Islanders, they will earn their first playoff berth in club history. However, if Harrisburg should take a draw or victory against Dayton, the Hammerheads would shift into the eight position with a victory over Antigua and ultimately make headway into playoffs.
With one match remaining versus the Hammerheads, Antigua has struggled to capture a victory during their winless season. The Hammerheads hosted Antigua back in April for their first home match of the year, defeating the Barracuda 2-0.
The USL PRO regular season will come to a conclusion for all teams this weekend. Following Saturday's matches, playoff positions and home field advantages will be determined and the quarterfinals will be scheduled accordingly.
Legion Stadium will also be the venue of a double-header on Saturday as the University of North Carolina Wilmington Men's Soccer team will play Longwood University at 5:00 p.m. prior to the Hammerheads taking the field at 7:30 p.m. against Antigua.
