Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, FL - It certainly wasn't flashy but the Hammerheads manufactured a run in the seventh inning and it led to a 3-2 win over Fort Myers on Monday at Roger Dean Stadium.

With the game tied at two in the seventh, Alonzo Harris started the rally when he reached on a perfect bunt single to the second baseman, who was playing deep. Ross Wilson then bunted Harris into scoring position. Noah Perio followed by hitting a grounder to short but the throw by Jorge Polanco pulled the first baseman off the bag allowing Perio to reach at first as Harris advanced to third.

The Hammerheads would take advantage of the error as Cameron Flynn hit a fly ball to left that was deep enough to plate Harris with the go-ahead run.

The Miracle would attempt a rally in the top of the eighth with runners on the corners with two outs, but Reid Redman got Max Kepler to ground out to end the threat.

Joseph O'Gara would pitch a 1-2-3 ninth inning to close things out and pick up his second save.

The Hammerheads jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Viosergy Rosa led off with a double and two batters later Blake Barber drove him in with a single.

In the third Jupiter would double its lead when Ryan Goetz reached on an infield single and Matt Juengel hit a double to the warning track that glanced off the glove of the left fielder. It was Juengel's team-leading 14th RBI of the season.

Hammerheads starter Josh Hodges would pick up a no decision although he pitched his best game of the year. Hodges allowed just one run, on a RBI single by Kepler in the sixth, on six hits in six innings. It was his first quality start of the season.

But Hodges was erased from the decision in the seventh when Chipper Smith allowed a triple by Niko Goodrum and a double by Levi Michael to start the frame. Smith would eventually pick up his first victory once Flynn's sac fly won the game.

Steven Gruver was handed his second loss of the season for the Miracle.

The teams will finish their brief two game series at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday before heading to Hammond Stadium for a pair of games. First pitch on Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:35 for another Knothole Gang Kid's Club night at RDS.

WP: Smith (1-1)

LP: Gruver (1-2)

S: O'Gara (2)
