Hall of Famer Lou Brock To Throw Out First Pitch

St. Louis Cardinals' Hall of Famer Lou Brock, who was voted to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1985, will help to kick off the 2008 regular season at Hammons Field, by throwing out the Ceremonial First Pitch. The Springfield Cardinals will open the 2008 regular season on Thursday, April 3rd at 7:10pm, as they take on the Frisco RoughRiders at Hammons Field. Gates will open 90 minutes before game time at 5:40pm.

"We've been very fortunate to have so many Cardinals' greats visit us at Hammons Field in our first three seasons," Vice President / General Manager Matt Gifford said. "We're honored to have Lou Brock help us carry on that tradition here in 2008. I know he'll make Opening Night that much more memorable for Cardinals fans."

A career .293 hitter, Brock's 938 stolen bases was a major league record until 1991, when Rickey Henderson broke the mark. Brock, who had his #20 retired in 1979, was voted to the All-Busch Stadium team in 2005.

Tickets are still available for Opening Night at Hammons Field. 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a free 2008 Cardinals Schedule Magnet, thanks to Great Southern. The evening will be capped off by a brilliant Fireworks Display thanks to AM Pyrotechnics. Game time is 7:10 and gates open at 5:40. Sing for the Cardinals with the Hardee's "Star of the Game"

Hardee's and the Springfield Cardinals have teamed up for a brand new between-inning promotion, called the Hardee's "Star of the Game". New on-field emcee J. Fotsch and members of the Cardinals' staff will be at the Hardee's on 2260 N Glenstone this Wednesday from 3pm to 5pm, giving fans the opportunity to sing in an American Idol/Karaoke style competition. Clips from Wednesday's events will be shown at Hammons Field during Springfield Cardinals games, including this weekend's exhibition games against the St. Louis Cardinals. Contestants can choose from the following five songs:
