Halifax Rainmen News Release

(Halifax, NS) The Halifax Rainmen are pleased to announce that they have selected NBA champion Cliff Levingston as head coach for the 2012-13 NBL Canada season. Levingston comes to the Rainmen with an impressive resume, including the outstanding achievement of winning two NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls.

Levingston, a first-round draft pick of the Detroit Pistons in 1982, also played for the Atlanta Hawks for six seasons before being traded to the Chicago Bulls, where he played alongside Michael Jordan.

"I am extremely excited to include an individual of Cliff's stature to our organization," said Halifax Rainmen President & CEO, Andre Levingston. "As a player, Cliff was known for his hard work and energy on the court. He has taken that same approach with coaching, as well as with the volunteer work he does in the communities he serves. I am confident that Cliff is exactly what our organization needs to get us back to being a strong contender in competing for the NBL Canada championship."

In addition to his NBA career, Levingston found success playing in Greece and Italy, where he appeared in the European final four. After his stint in Europe, Levingston was called back to the NBA where he suited up for the Denver Nuggets.

Levingston's coaching career began in 2000 as an assistant coach with Fort Wayne Fury of the CBA. In 2002, Levingston was head coach of the Dodge City Legends of the now defunct USBL. During his time with the Dodge City Legends, Levingston was named coach of the year after leading his team to capturing the championship title. Since proving his coaching abilities are of championship calibre, Levingston has continued to enjoy opportunities in the USBL and the CBA.

Cliff Levingston will attend the draft and NBL Canada combine with Halifax Rainmen owner and cousin Andre Levingston in Orangeville Ontario.
