Haddix And Richard Among First Players Selected In 2007 Draft

April 10, 2007 - United States Basketball League (USBL) News Release

Milford, CT - (April 10, 2007) The United States Basketball League (USBL) held its 22nd annual college draft selection this evening. The draft picks were made via a teleconference call and then posted on the USBL web site in real-time.

The Albany Patroons kicked off the night's frenzied action by taking Siena forward Michael Haddix. After taking a medical red-shirt for the 2005-06 season, Michael returned as a dominant low post presence in the MAAC. Leading the Saints in scoring this past season, Haddix averaged 16.3 ppg and 7.5 rpg in 32 games. His productive senior campaign garnered spots on the First Team All-MAAC, MAAC All-Tournament team and MAAC All-Academic team in 2006-07. He played at St. John Neumann (PA) before joining Siena where he was the Philadelphia Daily News Co-Player of the Year as a senior.

With the second selection of the draft, Gary chose Chris Richard. The 6-9 power forward was often the first man off the bench for Billy Donovan's Florida Gators. During Florida's most recent NCAA title season, Chris chipped in 6.2 ppg and 3.7 rpg over 40 games. Richard's prep career included being dubbed Florida's Mr. Basketball in 2003 where his Lakeland Kathleen team compiled a 22-6 mark during his senior year.

Delaware picked 6-5 guard, Troy Roundtree, with the third pick in the draft. Troy averaged 5.9 ppg and 4.0 rpg for Delaware State in 2006-07. A Philadelphia native, Roundtree played for Northeast High School.

Trey Johnson, a 6-5 guard, was chosen fourth by Jackson. Johnson's 27.1 points per game led the Jackson State Tigers in scoring during the 2006-07 season. New Jersey selected Kevin Kruger fifth overall. Kruger played under his father at UNLV this season averaging 13.5 ppg and 5.1 apg.

Picking sixth, the Kansas Cagerz selected Cartier Martin (6-7, Forward) out of Kansas State. The Long Island Primetime took Loren Stokes (6-3, Guard) out of Hofstra with the draft's next selection. Brooklyn used very little of the allotted time in choosing Iona's 6-8 forward, Justin Marshall with the eighth pick of the draft.

Rounding out the first round was another UNLV Rebel, Joel Anthony (6-9, Forward), to the Dodge City Legend and Oklahoma's Nate Carter (6-6, Guard) to the Oklahoma Storm.

The complete draft selections are shown below and online.
