Victoria HabourCats News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats have secured the signings of right-handed pitcher Greg Casper and catcher Riley Guntrip for the 2017 West Coast League season. Both players were instrumental in Victoria's record-setting 40-win season in 2016 resulting in the franchise's first-ever playoff berth.

RHP Greg Casper, University of San Diego, Sophomore, Pocatello, ID, 6/175

C Riley Guntrip, University of British Columbia, Junior, Camrose, AB, 5-9/180

Greg Casper was outstanding for the HarbourCats in 2016, quickly emerging as a relied upon late inning reliever.

In 17 appearances, Casper was 2-1 with a 1.92 ERA and five saves. His five saves tied a new franchise record with teammate Holden Lyons. In 23.1 innings pitched, Casper allowed just 15 hits and 12 walks while recording 36 strikeouts, second-most among HarbourCats relievers.

Casper has committed to the University of San Diego (NCAA Div. 1, WCC) for the fall of 2017.

Riley Guntrip earned his way into a pivotal role behind the plate for the HarbourCats last season. Originally signed to a 10-day contract in 2016, Guntrip earned a full-season contract and finished the season batting .270 with four doubles, one homerun and 11 RBIs.

Guntrip's exploits in Victoria resulted in him earning a scholarship at UBC last fall.

The HarbourCats roster now stands at 35 players.
