NEWPORT, R.I. - The Newport Gulls continue their strong relationship with Washington State University in 2015, welcoming back Shea Donlin for a third season with the Gulls, accompanied by new outfielder Cooper Elliott.

Donlin, a 2013 NECBL All-Star in his first season in Newport, was the spark that ignited the hot streak for the NECBL-champion Gulls last August. Donlin's playoff appearance included a team-leading .385 batting average, .538 slugging percentage, and a team-best 1.022 OPS, getting on base at a .484 clip through eight playoff games. For Newport last summer, his sharp defense at second base kept the Gulls in many close games - he committed only one error in 31 regular-season games. This spring for the Cougars, Donlin is 12-59 at the plate with two doubles.

"He comes out and plays the game the right way every night," said General Manager Chuck Paiva of the 5'9" Redmond, Washington native. "He plays hard and competes."

Elliott is a 6'4" left-handed batter out of Cashmere, Washington who looks to add to the dynamic of the Gulls lineup in 2015. The college outfielder is a convert from the infield when he played at Cashmere High School. Redshirting in 2013, he first appeared for Washington State in 2014. In his redshirt freshman season, Elliot played in 24 games, starting 10 for the Cougars, batting .135 in 37 at-bats, notching one double and two RBI.

At Washington this season, Elliott is batting .197 in 34 games, including 17 starts. He's shown flashes of extra-base power, and is tied for the team lead in triples with three. He's also driven in five runs, doubled three times, and picked up 10 walks, sixth-most on a talented Cougars offense that includes former Gull sluggers Ben Roberts and PJ Jones.

"Cooper is athletic for his size, and will bring a left-handed hitting presence to the middle of our line-up," said Paiva about a Gulls lineup that is legendary for featuring a plethora of left-handed hitters. He added that Elliott's strong arm and defensive prowess - he committed zero errors this spring - will suit him well at Cardines Field this summer.
