December 13, 2004 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

LONGUEUIL, Monday December 13th 2004 (QMJHL) – Forward Guillaume Labrecque, of the Gatineau Olympiques, and defenceman Kristopher Letang, of the Val-d'Or Foreurs, were respectively named Offensive Player and Defensive Player of the Week in the Québec Major Junior Hockey League, on Monday, for the period stretching from December 6th to December 12th.

Labrecque, a 19 year-old left-winger, scored five goals, including one game-winner, and added three assists in three games last week. During that period, he contributed to eight of the Olympiques 13 goals

Labrecque had his best game last Friday against the Drummondville Voltigeurs, getting three goals and one assist in a 5-2 Olympiques road victory. Labrecque was named first star of the game.

Two days earlier, at home against Shawinigan, he recorded the winning goal as the Olympiques defeated the Cataractes 4-2. Once again, he was selected first star of the game.

On Sunday, in Val-d'Or, Labrecque registered one goal and one assist. His goal tied the game at 4-4 with only 52 seconds to go in the third period. The Foreurs won the game 5-4 in overtime.

Among players from the Western Division, Labrecque is second in scoring with 39 points, one fewer than former teammate Philippe Dupuis, now playing with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Labrecque was chosen over Francis Lemieux (3-5-1-6), of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens, Yannick Tifu (3-2-5-7), of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, and Sidney Crosby (3-4-2-6), of the Rimouski Océanic.

On the defensive side, Letang, a 17 year-old rookie, scored three goals in as many games, including two game-winner. He had 14 shots on nets and gave six bodychecks.

The Foreurs needed overtime in all three games, and ended the week with five points out of a possibility of six.

On Friday, as Val-d'Or hosted regional rivals Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, Letang recorded his first winning goal of the season and earned first star.

On Sunday, against the Olympiques, Letang repetead his feats, scoring the game-winner in sudden death overtime and being selected first star. He had previously registered his fourth tally of the year, in the first period.

Last Wednesday in a 1-1 draw against the Victoriaville Tigres, Letang shone again, getting five shots on net and giving two bodychecks. He was named third star of that contest.

Among rookie defencemen, Letang leads the League in goals (5), assists (10), points (15), winning goals (2), bodychecks (61) and shots on goals (76).

In the voting, Letang was preferred to defencemen Marc-André Gragnani (2-2-2-4) of the P.E.I. Rocket, and Philippe Séguin (3-1-3-4), of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies as well as to goaltender Josh Tordjman (3 GP, 0-1-1, 153,44 MP, 1.95 GAA, 0.944 SE), last week's Defensive nominee, of the Victoriaville Tigres.
