Miami, FL- CSD Municipal arrives tomorrow afternoon in Miami to face Miami FC on Wednesday, August 9th at 8:00 PM, at Tropical Park Stadium.
This is the first time in history that the current 4 time consecutive Guatemalan League Champions are playing in Florida.
Municipal is leading their league after the first two weeks of play in the Apertura Tournament 2006. So far this season they are 2-0 (4-1 against Mictlan and 2-1 against Petapa in a match played yesterday).
Historically, Municipal is the most important team in Guatemala. They have won 24 National Titles (more than any other team in Guatemala), 4 Central American Championships (UNCAF), 9 Cup Tournaments, and one CONCACAF Championship.
Currently Municipal has over 10 international players, and as the most popular club in Guatemala they serve as base for the Guatemalan National Team that almost made it to the 2006 World Cup.
Included in Municipal's roster are Mario Acevedo, Gonzalo Romero, Freddy Garcia, Guillermo "Pando" Ramirez, Erwin Villatoro, Carlos Figueroa, Julio Giron, Selvyn Ponciano, Paulo Cesar Motta, Pablo Melgar, Dennis Chen, and Guatemala's all-time leading goal scorer, Juan Carlos "Pin" Plata.
This is the second International friendly of high caliber that Miami FC is playing in a week span. Last Wednesday, the USL First Division squad lost to Spanish side, Alaves, 2-1 in an entertaining match held at Tropical Park Stadium.
CSD Municipal will depart on Thursday, August 9th at 4PM. The Guatemalan champions are staying at the Sheraton Miami Mart Hotel by the Miami International Airport.
CSD Municipal Coach Enzo Trossero will hold practices at Tropical Park Stadium tomorrow, Tuesday at 4:00 PM, Wednesday at 9:30 AM, and Thursday at 9:30 AM.
