Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa- A group of devoted hockey fans will help Waterloo Black Hawks players travel more comfortably in 2010-2011, while enjoying special opportunities to interact with the team, the Black Hawks announced Monday.

The Black Hawks unveiled the new Black Hawks Guardian Angel program, which will provide the team's favorite snacks, travel games, and magazines for road trips during the coming season. Participating fans will receive a Guardian Angel pin, arena recognition, and invitations to a variety of exclusive Guardian Angel events with the team.

"This will give people the ability to be part of this team without lacing up skates," said Waterloo Black Hawks President Doug Miller. "All the funds from this program go directly toward the things the players need, and they will show their appreciation at every opportunity."

Some of the team interactions being discussed will be a "Feed the Guardian Angel Night" where the team will prepare and serve the Angels dinner, as well as an exclusive, "Hawk for a Day" event where the team will host a gathering in the new locker room once it is complete.

"This is something new and something we are very excited about," said Head Coach and General Manager P.K. O'Handley. "Being on the road is tough for these young men and this will help make it much easier for everyone. I know the guys will be very appreciative of this and I think it's a great way for everyone to be part of the team."

Guardian Angels can sign up during the Black Hawks preseason game on Tuesday against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. Game time is 7:05. The $50 contributions for each Guardian Angel participant will be pooled to purchase road trip essentials in bulk based on a survey of the team's favorite healthy snack foods, goodies, magazines and other items.
