Fayetteville Guard News Release
The Fayetteville Guard anxiously awaited the chance to meet Lakeland face-to-face for the second round NIFL playoff game. Lakeland was the only team to defeat the Guard, 41-60, during its regular season play.
The Guard ended the first quarter with a 0-12 deficit to Lakeland. However, Fayetteville's fans got up and showed how much they care and support the Guard when #21 Jamie Deese took a hard hit and fell over the wall and on to the cement, near the announcer's table.
This sparked Fayetteville's drive to give the fans what they wanted. The Guard answered back to Lakeland in the second quarter with 20 points of their own. Lakeland only scored one more touchdown in the third quarter and Fayetteville added four more to end the game with a 44-18 victory over Lakeland.
The Guard will travel to St. Louis to face off against River City for the NIFL Atlantic Conference championship. All Fayetteville Guard fans who wish to travel by charter bus to St. Louis to support the team can call the Guard's office, 910-482-4328, beginning Monday, July 17, 2006 for more information.
