Growlers Sweep Series, Extend Mummies' Skid to Six

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Richmond Flying Mummies wrapped up a difficult two-game road series Thursday night, falling 11-1 to the Kalamazoo Growlers after dropping Wednesday's opener 10-8. Richmond has now lost six straight games and falls to 10-24 on the season, while Kalamazoo improves to 14-20.
The series began with a back-and-forth contest Wednesday in which the Mummies erased an early deficit and rallied late, but ultimately could not overcome a pair of Growlers scoring bursts. Prince DeBoskie reached base three times and stole two bases, Colton Sims drove in two runs, and Drew Phillips launched a three-run homer during Richmond's three-run eighth inning, but Kalamazoo held on for the 10-8 victory.
Thursday followed a different script, as the Growlers gradually pulled away behind Isaac Scavarda and a balanced offensive attack. Eli Bennett paced the Mummies by going 3-for-4, while Prince DeBoskie added two hits and Jackson Thomas drove in Richmond's lone run. The Mummies collected nine hits but stranded runners throughout the evening and were unable to capitalize after putting multiple men on base.
Over the two games, Richmond's offense continued to show flashes, collecting 16 hits and drawing 15 walks, but the pitching staff surrendered 21 runs while issuing 16 free passes. Kalamazoo capitalized on those opportunities throughout the series, receiving home runs from Brock Sell and Logan Tribble while consistently extending innings with patient at-bats.
The Mummies will look to regroup as they return to Don McBride Stadium for their final two games of the season against the Kenosha Kingfish (16-18). First pitch for Friday's game is scheduled for 6:35PM ET.
