Kingfish Fall Late to Wausau in Home Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Kenosha Kingfish closed out their regular-season home schedule with a 5-4 loss to the Wausau Woodchucks on Thursday night at Historic Simmons Field. Kenosha finished the summer 24-12 at home, but Wausau used a run in the ninth inning to break a 4-4 tie and take the finale.

The Kingfish answered Wausau's first-inning run with one of their own in the bottom half, then grabbed control in the second. Tate Bender doubled before Will Matuszak launched a two-run home run to give Kenosha a 3-1 lead. Matuszak finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a stolen base.

Kenosha added another run in the fourth when Hunter Snyder drove in Matuszak, but the Woodchucks climbed back. Joey McLaughlin brought Wausau within one in the fourth, and Caleb Karll delivered the biggest swing of the night in the fifth with a two-run homer to tie the game. Karll finished with three RBIs for Wausau.

The game stayed tied until the ninth, when Wausau pushed across the go-ahead run. Kenosha had chances throughout the night, collecting nine hits and drawing four walks, but the Kingfish left 12 runners on base.

Peter Visconti added a triple, Bender doubled, and Snyder finished with two hits and an RBI. On the mound, Jackson Banuelos started for Kenosha, while Jacob Vokal tossed two scoreless innings out of the bullpen.

The Kingfish now head on the road for their final series of the regular season, opening a matchup with Richmond tomorrow before turning their attention to the playoffs.
