Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, KS - Between the end of the inaugural 2001 season, and the beginning of the 2002 season head coach Land Jacobsen vowed to improve at every position. The position that was most apparently improved was the wide receivers. Pascal Volz, who was the top receiver in arenafootball2 in 2001, returned with Willie Grissom and Carl Richardson to the Stealth lineup. Add to that one of the best receivers ever to play in arenafootball2, in Xavier Patterson, and a receiver with Arena Football experience like Corey McCoy and you have a core of receivers that will turn a few heads. Today the Stealth went a step further when they were assigned Greg Kyler by arenafootball2.
Kyler played in 15 games for the Stealth in 2001. He caught 40 passes for 533 yards, and eight touchdowns. Kyler came to the Stealth from the University of Tennessee, and brought size and speed to a team that was still learning the tricks of the trade. One year later, Jacobsen hopes Kyler will be the answer to the Stealth's scoring woes.
"He will help us spread the field. He is so fast, and so physical he will force teams to respect him deep," said Jacobsen.
Kyler has a knack for the big play. In the six of the 15 games Kyler played in during the 2001 season, he caught one pass over 30 yards in each of them. The longest pass was a 45-yard reception against Iowa, in a game that Kyler ended with six receptions for 79-yards, and one touchdown.
On the defensive side, Kyler brings in good size and incredible speed that will strengthen an already solid defense.
"The one thing that he will add is his height. It will be hard for anyone to out-run or out-jump him," says Jacobsen.
In 2001 Kyler made 20 tackles and two pass defenses. He is expected to travel with the Stealth to Fresno, CA, this week as they take on the Fresno Frenzy. The game time is 9:30 p.m. locally, and can be heard on 1330 KFH.
