Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC : Greenville Road Warriors announced that the preseason game on October 5, 2012 will benefit The Children's Museum of the Upstate. The game will begin at 7:00 pm at the BI-LO Center against the Gwinnett Gladiators. Proceeds of all ticket sales will be donated to The Children's Museum and the Greenville Road Warriors will match the donation.
As of March 2012, Fred Festa, owner of Chestnut Street Sports, LLC, purchased the Greenville Road Warriors with the motivation to lay the groundwork for a viable and community oriented organization. In an effort to optimize the long-term goals and community involvement efforts for the Greenville Road Warriors, Festa retained Chris Lewis as General Manager to lead the organization.
"This is great opportunity for the Greenville Road Warriors to show our sincerity in regards to the support of our local community, especially in the area of education. The Children's Museum is vital to the Greenville area as they continue to provide an encouraging and positive learning environment for children," said Chris Lewis, Greenville Road Warriors General Manager.
The idea for The Children's Museum, originally conceived by a local mother, took shape in December 2003. For six years, a group of local benefactors worked together to provide the groundwork for a facility that would inspire curiosity, stir the imagination, encourage active lifestyles and develop a lifelong love of learning. Since opening its doors to the public in 2009, The Children's Museum of the Upstate strives to empower all children to discover their full potential and expand their view of themselves and the world. The 18 interactive exhibits focus in the areas of arts, humanities, sciences, health and nutrition and the environment.
"The Children's Museum is overwhelmed by the generosity of the Greenville Road Warriors. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with a local organization that will enable us to continue to grow and educate the children in the Upstate," said Nancy Halverson, Senior Vice President of Museum Advancement. "The funds donated by the Greenville Road Warriors will enable us to build our capacity to deliver exceptional educational programming that will be available for all children", said Halverson.
The Greenville Road Warriors are eager to be involved in the community and committed to serving the Upstate year round. The October 5 th preseason game marks the first time the puck will drop in the BI-LO Center for 2012-13. The Road Warriors will open the regular season on EquilifeMD Rink on October 19 th at 7:00 pm.
