Greens Beat Bold, 3-1, Go Top of Group D
July 17, 2020 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
OKC Energy FC News Release
Jon Brown, Jaime Chavez and Jose Hernandez each found the back of the net to give John Pascarella his first win, 3-1, over Austin Bold FC Friday night at Bold Stadium.
If Energy FC looked rusty on Monday, the opposite was true Friday night at Bold Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The Greens opened the scoring in the 29th minute with a fantastic goal built from the back. Goalkeeper CJ Cochran rolled the ball to Nico Taravel, who played it long up the left channel to find the head of Jaime Chavez. Chavez spotted the run of Jon Brown and was able to flick his header directly into his path. From there, Brown took one big, perfectly-weighted touch and finished with aplomb into the side netting from the corner of the penalty area.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Omar Ciss was able to pick out Sonny Guadarrama, who chested the ball down near the top of the box and fired a low shot past Cochran to level the score.
The Greens regained the lead in the 64th minute after Zach Ellis-Hayden, who was a threat down the right side all night long, drove into the box and was brought down. Up stepped Chavez, on his 33th birthday, to take the penalty, and the striker calmly tucked the ball into the lower left corner to score in back-to-back games.
OKC remained in control for the remainder of the half and sealed the win with a goal from Jose Hernandez, his first with the club, in the 94th minute. Hernandez linked up brilliantly with second-half substitute Frank Lopez to go one-on-one with Diego Restrepo, and Hernandez rolled the ball past the Austin goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The win takes Energy FC to four points on the season and to the top of Group D.
Energy FC returns home Wednesday, July 22 to face Rio Grande Valley FC at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at https://www.energyfc.com/tickets or by calling 235-KICK (5425).
