Great 8 Tournament to support Golisano Children's Hospital
March 17, 2006 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Rochester, NY. The ABA's Championship "Great 8" Tournament, featuring the eight top-rated ABA teams for the 2005-2006 season, begins right here in Rochester on Wednesday, March 22 - and when you buy tickets for your group, a portion of the sale will be donated to Golisano Children's Hospital at Strong.
The RazorSharks host this year's championship tournament at their home court, the Blue Cross Arena. And, while they still have one game between them and a "Great 8" spot, the ABA Playoff Power Rankings have predicted the Rochester RazorSharks to have a pretty good shot (pardon the pun). Should the RazorSharks, whose inaugural season began in November, win their first-ever playoff game against the Newark Express Sunday, March 19 (tip-off at 2:05 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena), the players will be guaranteed to play on Wednesday, March 22 in the 7:30 p.m. quarter-finals game.
RazorSharks players who toured the children's hospital earlier this month said that the visit left quite an impact. "Almost immediately, they knew that they wanted to pursue this fund-raiser as a way of giving back to this community, especially its kids," said RazorSharks' Chief Operating Officer, Orest Hrywnak.
"We won't know if we're playing in the "Great 8" until Monday," Hrywnak added. "But either way, the hospital still wins."
Groups of 15 or more qualify for tournament game day pricing ($11 for general admission, $20 for reserved seating, $45 for courtside seating). Pricing is a daily cost that will admit you to all games played on that day - the quarter-finals on Wednesday, March 22 (games at noon, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.), semi-finals on Saturday, March 25 (games at noon and 2:30 p.m.), or the Championship on Sunday, March 26 (2 p.m.).
To purchase group tickets, call Kim Snyder at 585 232 9190 or visit www.rochesterrazorsharks.com or www.abalive.com.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
