Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. January 14, 2017 The Quad City Mallards have signed forward/defenseman Nick Grasso to a standard player contract and have released forward Sebastian Geoffrion, the Mallards announced today.
Grasso, 28, rejoins the Mallards after producing 12 goals, 33 assists and 45 points while playing 113 games over two full seasons and part of a third in the Quad Cities between 2013 and 2015. The 6-foot-1-inch, 190-pound Smithtown, New York, native- who has spent the bulk of this season with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Macon Mayhem- returns to the ECHL just four days after completing a three-game stint with the Indy Fuel. Grasso has scored four goals and added six assists for ten points in 24 games with Macon.
Grasso picked up two assists in three games with the Mallards early last season before skating in the SPHL for the rest of the campaign with first the Peoria Rivermen and then the Mayhem. Grasso totaled two goals, 12 assists and 14 points in 37 SPHL games last year.
In his last full Mallard season- 2014-15- Grasso scored six times and notched 10 assists for 16 points in 63 games. He also finished that campaign tied for the Mallard team lead in plus/minus rating (+15).
As a rookie in 2013-14, Grasso scored six goals, collected 21 assists and piled up 27 points in 47 Central Hockey League games with the Mallards.
Before turning professional, Grasso recorded six goals, 14 assists and 20 points in 99 career games over four seasons at American International College. Grasso was named to the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team after both his sophomore and junior seasons.
Grasso played four years of junior hockey for six teams (Waterloo Black Hawks, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders, Ohio Junior Blue Jackets, Alpena IceDiggers, Jersey Hitmen and New York Apple Core) in three leagues (United States Hockey League, Eastern Junior Hockey League and North American Hockey League) before heading to AIC.
Geoffrion, 27, signed with the Mallards last Friday and that evening made his debut for the club in a 6-3 loss to Indy before recording his first point for the Mallards last night by picking up an assist in a 4-3 win over the Fort Wayne Komets.
The Mallards return to action on home ice with a Martin Luther King Day matinee game against the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
Single game tickets for all Mallards regular season home games- including tomorrow's game- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
