Grand Slam Not Enough for Aviators
June 6, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release
Bryce Ball's grand slam in the bottom of the 7th was enough to tie the game, but would ultimately not be enough for the win as Lafayette drops their fourth in a row, 12-5.
Terre Haute's offense was firing on all cylinders, registering 14 hits and consistently responding to Lafayette's scoring.
The Aviators would open the scoring in the 3rd with Milo Beam crossing the plate on a passed ball. The Rex followed that up by bringing in three runs of their own in the 4th to reclaim the lead 3-1, which is where the score would remain until the 7th inning.
With one out, two strikes and the bases loaded, Ball stepped back into the batter's box and crushed one clear over the scoreboard in right field to spring the home crowd to life and tie the game at 5.
The celebration would turn out to be short-lived. The next two outs came in short order before the Rex would respond yet again, this time with five runs in the 8th. They added two more in the 9th, bringing their total to 12 and sealing the deal on another Aviator loss.
Lafayette travels to Springfield tomorrow to play the Sliders, first pitch is at 6:35 pm.
