Joliet JackHammers News Release

Joliet, IL-One swing changed the complexion of the game in the sixth inning. Donnie Ross smashed a grand slam for the Winnipeg Goldeyes (17-13, 39-38) in that inning which gave them a seven lead and that proved to be enough to get the victory on this night. Winnipeg took the game over the Joliet JackHammers (9-21, 32-46) by the score of 9-4 in front of the biggest crowd of the season. The attendance was 6,727 on this Tuesday night at Silver Cross Field.

The JackHammers picked up their first run of the game in the third inning when Eric Blakley singled home Sam Flamont who singled earlier in the inning. That run cut the lead Winnipeg to 2-1. Then in the fourth inning in the JackHammers tied the game when Matt McCay singled home Jose Amado who doubled to reach base earlier in the inning. But, that would be as close as Joliet would get for the rest of the game.

Winnipeg took the lead back in the top of the fifth inning with two runs. Then in the sixth inning the Goldeyes struck for five runs including that grand slam by Ross. Four of the five runs came after two outs were recorded in the inning.

David Manning (2-1) started for the Goldeyes and threw seven innings while giving up two earned runs. He picked up his second win of the season in his third start.

The ‘Hammers picked up two runs in the eighth inning but that would not be enough as they fell by five runs.

Ben Moore (4-7) started the game for the JackHammers and went five and two thirds innings and gave up seven earned runs.

Joliet was lead by Amado and Drobiak who each had two hits. Also, Amado scored three runs and McCay had two RBI's. Winnipeg was lead offensively by Max Poulin and Ross who each had three hits. Poulin also scored three runs and Ross had five RBI's.

Loose gravel: Wednesday's starters will be Allen Levrault (0-2, 13.24 ERA) for the JackHammers and Phil Sobkow (4-1, 3.83 ERA) for the Goldeyes.

Bryan Goelz made his JackHammer debut Tuesday night starting in right field. He was drafted in the 36th round of the 2002 draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent three years in their organization.

Tuesday was Military Appreciation night at Silver Cross Field and people showed their support by coming out in droves. The attendance was the largest of the season at Silver Cross Field at 6,727.

Amado has yet to strike out as a JackHammer this season in forty-nine at-bats.
