Colorado Gold Kings News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - With only 18 seconds left in regulation, Xavier Majic turned his home debut into a successful one, burying the game-winner and snapping an eight-game winless streak for the Gold Kings in a 5-4 victory over Fresno Friday night before a crowd of 4,986 at the Colorado Springs World Arena.

Six of the game's nine goals came on the power play, and the Falcons took the early lead in the opening frame on a Mike Mathers one-timer from the high slot that beat Colorado netminder Kirk Daubenspeck glove side. On another Fresno man advantage, the Falcons increased the lead to 2-0 at 5:35 of the match as Jason Weaver tucked one in the left corner. Craig Lyons cut the deficit in half from the right circle, with the assists credited to Travis Thiessen and Majic. With 1:33 remaining in the first period, Majic banged home R.J. Enga's rebound to tie the game at 2-2, again on the power play.

Dale Junkin regained the lead for Fresno on yet another power play with a slap shot from the left circle at the 7:22 mark in the second period. The Gold Kings evened the score at 3-3 with 20.8 seconds left in the frame as Colin Chaulk found Zac Boyer for a point-blank one-timer.

The Falcons grabbed a 4-3 advantage as Kris Porter beat Daubenspeck with a one-timer seven minutes into the third period. Lyons blasted home a signature slapper from just inside the blue line blazed past Friesen at the 15:18 mark. A late slashing call against the Falcons set up Majic's heroics, as he slammed home another loose puck in front to give Colorado its first win in more than two weeks.

The Colorado Gold Kings meet Fresno again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m., then wrap up their regular season with two more home games against the Anchorage Aces in a two-game series Friday, April 5th and Sunday, April 7th where the puck is scheduled to drop at 7:30 p.m. MST both nights. Jack Michaels calls the play-by-play for Colorado's games, all of which are broadcast live on KKCS-AM Hot Talk 1460.
