Connecticut Whale News Release
The Connecticut Whale have signed goaltender Cassandra Goyette to a contract for the upcoming fifth season of the NWHL. Goyette, who graduated Nichols College this spring, had a 1.42 goals-against average in .952 save percentage over 21 games in her senior year.
The goaltender was raised in Randolph, Mass. before her family moved to the town Norton in the state when she was in sixth grade. Goyette played on the Norton High School boys' hockey team - there wasn't a girls' team at the school - and was a captain in her senior year.
"At 5-foot-8, Cassandra has a big presence in net and a proven track record of excellent goaltending after a great career at Nichols," said Connecticut general manager Bray Ketchum. "We monitored her play closely this offseason and we are thrilled to welcome Cassandra for her first professional season with the CT Whale."
Goyette, who describes her approach as "Keep it simple, work hard and get better," completed her Nichols career in the Colonial Hockey Conference as the school's all-time leader in wins, shutouts, saves, save percentage and GAA. She received the "Outstanding Female Senior Award for Leadership and Sportsmanship" from the Nichols' athletics department and was named to the CHC All-Conference Second Team.
Goyette, who was an academic all-conference selection three times, continues her work in hockey as a power skating coach with some of her former teammates from Nichols.
"I'm extremely excited and grateful to be given this opportunity to play for the Whale and in the NWHL," said Goyette. "I can't wait to be a part of what we will accomplish together this season."
