Austin Aztex News Release

TAMPA, Fla. (www.austinaztex.com) - The Tampa Bay Rowdies struck a devastating blow to the Aztex in stoppage time, stealing a 1-1 draw from the jaws of defeat on Thursday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Despite packing in the defense as the game drew to an end, the Rowdies (6-10-11) attack hustled to beat the Aztex (14-4-8) defense to put the ball in net off a rebounded shot with the defense scrambling back into position.

The whistle blew shortly after before the Aztex were able to regroup and counter the attack.

Austin opened the game firing a barrage of shots against Tampa's Josh Lambo, whose seven saves helped keep the game in striking distance for the Rowdies all night long, despite plenty of opportunity from the visitors. On one possession in the first half, Austin took three straight corner kicks that were all cleared by the Rowdies defense.

Undeterred, the Aztex stayed on the attack for much of the game, but came up unlucky, even striking a missile off the crossbar late in the contest.

Despite not getting the full three points, Austin still moved one point closer to a title, now just one point behind Rochester with a game still in hand. Both teams are in action this weekend, with the Aztex facing AC St. Louis and the Rhinos hosting Miami FC on Friday.

Austin's next home game is next Saturday, again against AC St. Louis at 7:30 at House Park.
