Glory Edge Riptide 2-1

August 16, 2008 - National Pro Fastpitch (NPF)
New England Riptide News Release

Lowell, Ma - Two former Arizonans squared off today at Martin Softball Field in the first game of a double header. It was Erica Beach for the Riptide and Taryne Mowatt for the Glory. Both pitchers pitched well and got themselves out of jams with the Glory coming out on top 2-1. The Riptide had chances in both the sixth and seventh with runners on first and second, but both times hit into tailor-made double plays to end the rallies.

The Glory scored a couple in the fifth all occurring with two outs. A walk to Nicole Barber started it and she came home on a gap double by LaDonia Hughes. A walk to Amber Jackson was followed by a run scoring single by Oli Keohohou to end the scoring.

Mowatt, who walked five, had not given up a hit into the fifth when Lisa Iancin broke open the no hitter and the shutout with her third home run of the year to pull the Riptide to within one.

The Riptide conclude their regular season with the second game of the double-header tonight and the final game on Sunday at 5:05 at Martin Softball Field.
