Gladiators Win Again, Improve to 4-1 in December

December 18, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Orange County Gladiators News Release

Lamar Gayle had his first breakout game of the season, muscling 31 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Orange County Gladiators to a 122-115 win over the visiting Maywood Buzz on Sunday night at J. Serra High School. The win gives Orange County its 4th ABA win out of 5 games in December, improving their record to 4-6 overall.

Four other Gladiators broke the double digit scoring mark, including Robin "Sik Wit It" Kennedy who scored 14 straight points for Orange County in the second quarter, and took a 60-51 lead into the half.

The third quarter belonged to Mr. J.R. Reese of the Maywood Buzz. His six three's in the quarter ignited a vicious Maywood comeback. And things got worse as "Sik Wit It" received his second technical foul for arguing. The Buzz cashed in on two free-throws extending their lead to 70-66.

After Kennedy's exit, the Gladiators decided to get tough. Larry "Bone Collector" Williams, who replaced Kennedy after the Technical Foul, took over the game, cutting and slashing through the Maywood defense. Williams finished with 29 points, and sparked the team to a hard fought victory.

The Gladiators were able to counteract JR Reese's 52 point performance, with solid rebounding and eliminating 2nd chance points. Tony Farmer and Hondre Brewer combined to have 20 points and five blocks, limiting the rest of the buzz and showing a defensive intensity that could be used by the rest of the team as the season progresses.

The Gladiators hit the road this week, playing in Maywood on Wednesday and Long Beach on Thursday. They return home next weekend for a Saturday/Sunday double header against the San Diego Wildcats and Long Beach Breakers.
