
Gladiators Sign Former Youngstown State Standout

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Gladiators today signed former Youngstown State Penguin and Arena Football League Veteran WR/DB Willis Marshall. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The team also waived DB Ryan Bowers and released WR Cornelius Bonner, and QB Jose Davis.
Marshall (5-9, 193, Youngstown State) is a seven-year Arena Football League veteran. He was with the Georgia Force this season, appearing in three games. He posted 339 kickoff return yards on 20 attempts on special teams and added 20 rushing yards on 11 attempts on offense with the Force. His career highlights include two ArenaBowl Championships and All-Arena Ironman honors in both 2005 and 2006. During his career, Marshall as spent time with the Grand Rapids Rampage, Colorado Crush, Dallas Desperados and the Force.
Collegiately, Marshall was a four-year letter winner at Youngstown State University, earning three Division I-AA National Championships under current Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel. During his senior season, Marshall led Penguins with 40 catches for 490 yards and one touchdown. He earned his bachelor's degree in advertising and communications.
Bowers (6-1, 210, Presbyterian College) started all four games at defensive back for the Gladiators in 2008. He ranked second on the team with 20.5 tackles (18 solo, five assists) and one pass defended.
Bonner (6-0, 200, Cincinnati) appeared in all four games this season at wide receiver, recording nine catches for 173 yards and three touchdowns.
Davis (6-1, 200, Kent State) appeared in all four games this season, mostly holding on all extra-point and field goal attempts. He did see time in New Orleans at quarterback, completing 6-of-10 passes for 115 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
