December 10, 2015 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Cleveland Gladiators News Release
CLEVELAND - The Arena Football League announced its 2016 schedule on Thursday, which will see the Cleveland Gladiators play the first of eight home games at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday, April 1st at 7:00 pm vs. the Philadelphia Soul. The 2016 season will be the Gladiators' eighth season in Cleveland and the AFL's 29th overall campaign.
This year's AFL Schedule will see each team play 16 regular-season games and participate in the AFL Postseason, featuring three rounds of postseason play, culminating with ArenaBowl XXIX, played the weekend of August 26th. Including the Gladiators, eight teams will compete in the 2016 AFL season, with four teams in the American Conference (Jacksonville Sharks, Orlando Predators, Philadelphia Soul and Tampa Bay Storm) and four in the National Conference (Arizona Rattlers, LA Kiss, Portland Thunder and the Gladiators, who will move to the National Conference for the 2016 season).
The 2016 AFL Postseason format sees the two conference winners seeded 1 and 2 with the remaining teams seeded 3-8 according to their record (regardless of conference). The top four seeds will host first-round postseason games and the two highest remaining seeds will host the semi-final rounds the following weekend. The top remaining seed from the semi-final round will then host ArenaBowl XXIX.
In preparation for the Republican National Convention held at Quicken Loans Arena next summer, the Gladiators will hit the road during the months of June and July. June features road games at Orlando, Portland and Jacksonville, with the team traveling to Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Arizona in July.
