Gilyard added to Vipers' secondary

Columbus, GA--The Chattahoochee Valley Vipers are pleased to announce the addition of Roshard Gilyard to their secondary.

This punishing free safety recorded 66 sacks at Auburn University, where he made 2 unassisted tackles in the 2003 Music City Bowl. As a freshman, Gilyard was named to the 2000 Coaches All-SEC Freshman team. That same year, he made his first career interception.

The 5'10'', 212-lb free safety is a welcome addition, said Head Coach/GM Jason Gibson.

"As we continue to sign quality players to our roster, our fans will know we're serious about providing excitement at every game," he added.

2003: Totaled two tackles against Georgia...Tied for team-high honors with four tackles and boke up a pass against Mississippi State...One tackle against Western Kentucky and two against Vanderbilt.

2002: Played in 12 games and finished the season with 16 tackles...Totaled five tackles against Louisiana-Monroe...Finished with two tackles against Florida...Forced a fumble and had four tackles against Western Carolina.

2001: Finished season with 20 tackles, playing in all 12 games...Tied a career-high with six tackles against Louisiana Tech...One tackle against Florida...Finished with three tackles including a tackle for loss against Syracuse...Tied a career-high with six tackles against Ole Miss...Finished with three tackles and two broken up passes against Ball State.

2000: Named to the Coaches' ALL-SEC freshman team...Started at free safety in seven games...intercepted first career pass and returned it 15 yards, broke up two passes and had two tackles against Louisiana Tech...Three tackles and a broken up pass against Florida...

High School: Named top strong safety in Florida by Florida Times-Union...SuperPrep All-American...Rated as top strong safety in the South by Pigskin Preps...Rated one of the top eight defensive backs in the country by the National Recruiting advisor...First team all-state...Led his prep team to 28-2 record as a starting QB.
