COUMBUS, Ga- The Chattahoochee Valley Vipers announce the signing of quarterback Joey Conrad, a finalist for the 2005 Harlon Hill Trophy presented annually to the NCAA Division II Player of The Year.
At Glenville State, Conrad set national division II records with 11,884 passing yards and 12,491 yards of total offense, In addition, Conrad's 104 career touchdown passes are good for a new conference standard.
He's coming off a senior season where he led Glenville State to a 9-2 mark, the school's most wins since 1997. The Pioneer attack also ranked among the national top ten in total offense (483.8 ypg) and scoring (39.3 ppg). Conrad completed 288 of 439 passes for 3,696 yards with 33 touchdown passes.
"I think we solved our quarterback problem," said Vipers Head Coach Jason Gibson. Conrad completed 17-34 for 216 yards and 6 touchdown passes vs. Augusta in his first ever Indoor Football game.
"I thought he did great for having only practiced one day and losing our star receiver (Graves) in the first quarter," add Gibson.
The Vipers (6-5) are in the hunt for one of the American Indoor Football League Southern Conference's final two playoff spots and will travel to Florence this Saturday.
