LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League announced Thursday that they have officially signed rookie forward Mickey Gilchrist. Gilchrist, who was acquired in a trade from Rapid City February 9th, arrived in Laredo Wednesday night.
Gilchrist (pronounced Gil-krist), a native of Ottawa, Ontario, had a stellar four-year career for Division III Middlbury College (NCAA), where he helped lead them to back to back NCAA Championships in 2005 and 2006. Gilchrist had 136 points in 115 games for the Panthers. His 74 goals with Middlebury ranks him fifth all-time at the school. 26 of Gilchrist's 74 goals for the Panther's came on the power-play.
Gilchrist, 5'9'', 185 pounds, finished led the Panthers in scoring twice, while finishing second in two seasons.
In the 2005 National Championship game Gilchrist scored the game-winning goal in the first period, as the Panthers won 5-0. In the 2006 National Championship game Gilchrist had two points, including an empty-net tally to give Middlebury a 3-0 win.
Laredo will return home for the final Big Buck Thirsty Thursday of the season on February 26th when they host Arizona at the LEC, where beer will be $2 all game long.
