Bucks Burn Sundogs In Shootout 5-4

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Arizona Sundogs 5-4 in a shootout Thursday night at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks won their second straight game to improve to 30-18-4 (64pts). Laredo has now won 30 or more games in each of their seven seasons.

The Bucks could not hold a 4-2 second period lead, but came back in the shootout for the win.

Jason Dixon scored the game-winning goal in the shootout, with Jaye Judd and Brent Cullaton giving the Bucks a 3-0 shootout edge.

Alex Goupil scored had three points (1-2=3), with Sebastien Centomo stopping 29 of 33 shots for the Bucks.

Matt Hanson tied the game at 4-4 with 6:09 left in the third period, when he scored a power-play goal from the right circle.

The Bucks are now 13-6-4 in one-goal games this season.

The Sundogs jumped out in front of the Bucks just 2:18 into the first period. Karl Sellan scored off of a wrist shot from the left side of the crease off of a pass from Tyler Liebel. The goal was Sellan's 28 of the season.

The Bucks (20-6-1 at home) would tie the game at 1-1 as they struck on the power-play. Igor Agarunov jammed in a rebound from the right side of the crease past Joel Gistedt. The goal was Agarunov's 13th of the season, with Darryl Smith (28) picking up the assist.

Arizona would take a 2-1 lead when Adam Perry scored on a penalty shot with 3:06 left in the first. The strike was Perry's 19th of the season.

The Bucks were outshot 11-9 in the first 20 minutes.

Laredo gained momentum at the end of the first period and into the second, as they killed off a full two-minute five-on-three power-play.

The Bucks came out on fire in the second period as they scored three goals in the first 5:02.

Alex Goupil tied the game at 2-2 just 2:27 into the period, as he snuck by the Sundogs defense and sent a backhander past Gistedt on the breakaway. Goupil tallied his 20th goal of the campaign.

Laredo would take a 3-2 lead just 1:15 later, when Matt Miller took a pass from Agarunov and broke past the Arizona defense and scored a breakaway goal. Miller's goal was his 12 of the year, with Agarunov picking up his 13th assist.

The Bucks would increase their lead to 4-2 at the 5:02 mark, when Micky Gilchrist scored in his first game with Laredo. Gilchrist took the puck from the right corner, and skated all the way to the left side of the crease and hammered a shot past Gistedt.

Arizona would cut the Bucks lead to 4-3 when Sellan hammered home a shot from the right circle on a two-on-one break. The goal was Sellan's second of the game, and 29th of the season.

Laredo was outshot in the second period 15-9.

Gistedt stopped 24 of 28 shots in net for Arizona.

The Bucks are now 19-1-1 when leading after the second period.

The Bucks will travel to Rio Grande Valley Friday night for a Southern Conference showdown.

Bucks rookie defenseman Mike Gooch was placed on the 14-day IR prior to Thursday night's game against Arizona. Gooch has put up six points (3-3=6), and is a minus-four in 45 games this season.
