Giants' Tendeck Named WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week

Calgary, Alta. - The Western Hockey League announced today that David Tendeck of the Vancouver Giants has been named the WHL Eli Wilson Goaltending Goaltender of the Week and league nominee for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 21, 2019.

Tendeck, a prospect for the Arizona Coyotes, appeared in two games during the past week, picking up a pair of wins over the Spokane Chiefs. He sported a 2-0-0-0 record, 1.50 goals-against average and stopped 54 of 57 shots for a .947 save percentage.

His efforts began Friday with a 30-save performance in a 4-1 win over Spokane. After stopping 11 shots in the first period, eight in the second and 11 in the third, Tendeck was awarded the first star of the game as well as the third star of the night in the WHL. The following night, Tendeck stopped 24 of 26 shots in a 4-2 win for Vancouver. Saving seven shots in the first period, 11 in the second and six in the third, Tendeck aided the Giants in their 2-0 series lead over the Chiefs.

Sporting a 6-1-0-0 record, 1.99 GAA and .923 SV%, Tendeck has been a major contributor to Vancouver's success in the 2019 WHL Playoffs. In the regular season, the 6-foot-2, 181-pound netminder posted a 24-10-2-1 record, 2.48 GAA, .911 SV% and four shutouts. Over 110 career WHL regular season games, Tendeck has amassed a record of 54-41-5-3, earning a 3.18 GAA, .900 SV%, and seven shutouts. Originally, Tendeck was drafted by Vancouver in the sixth round, 130th overall, in the 2014 WHL Bantam Draft. The North Vancouver, B.C. native was also selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the sixth round, 158th overall, at the 2018 NHL Draft.

Tendeck and the Giants will be back in action for Games 3 and 4 of the WHL's Western Conference Championship against the Chiefs on Tuesday, April 23 (7:05 p.m. PT) and Wednesday, April 24 (7:05 p.m. PT) at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
