
Giants See Winning Streak Come To An End With 6-2 Loss To Visalia

The San Jose Giants were handed a 6-2 loss by the Visalia Oaks on Tuesday night in front of 2,179 fans at Municipal Stadium. The Oaks used a three-run seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie en route to the victory. For the Giants, the loss snapped their four-game winning streak.
In the top of the seventh, facing Ben Thurmond, Matthew Maniscalco started the rally with a two-out double. Jay Sitzman was up next and the Visalia right fielder lined a single into center field as Maniscalco scored just in front of the throw from Clay Timpner. Then Joey Gomes extended the lead with a home run to left field and all of a sudden, it was a 5-2 Visalia advantage.
The Giants lone runs of the contest came in the first and second innings. In the first, Kevin Frandsen singled with one out. A single from Travis Ishikawa and then a walk to Eddy Martinez-Esteve loaded the bases. Frandsen would later score on a passed ball from catcher Sandy Aracena.
San Jose took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second when John Bowker led off by reaching on an error. He scored three batters later on a clutch two-out single from Timpner into left center field.
Giants starting pitcher Matt Kinney, in his San Jose debut, tossed 4 1/3 innings with two runs allowed (one earned) on four hits. The former major leaguer walked two and struck out eight.
Thurmond took the loss surrendering three runs in his 2 2/3 innings. Visalia relief pitcher Scott Vandermeer recorded the victory with three scoreless frames.
Offensively, the Giants mustered only six hits against a trio of Visalia pitchers. Martinez-Esteve saw his nine-game hitting streak come to an end with an 0-for-2 effort at the plate.
