San Jose Giants News Release

The San Jose Giants snapped their six-game losing streak with a dominant 13-2 victory over the Visalia Rawhide on Wednesday afternoon at Excite Ballpark. The Giants erupted offensively with 16 hits while achieving their highest scoring output in a home game this season. With the win, San Jose (47-36, 7-10 second half) and Visalia have now split the first two games of their series.

Carter Williams (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) and Garrett Frechette (3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) each smacked homers while Grant McCray (3-for-5, 4 RBI) drove in four runs to lead the Giants offensive attack. San Jose scored in six of their eight innings on Wednesday.

The Giants jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with a single tally in the bottom of the first before a two-run second inning. In the first, Aeverson Arteaga led off by reaching on an infield single and took second on the play when Visalia second baseman S.P. Chen threw wildly to first for an error. A one-out single from Williams advanced Arteaga to third before Victor Bericoto bounced into a force out to score the run. An inning later, three walks loaded the bases with two outs and then McCray blooped a single into shallow right plating two more runs for a 3-0 advantage.

Meanwhile, Trevor McDonald started on the mound for the Giants and began his day with two scoreless innings. The Rawhide scored once in the top of the third as Wilderd Patino singled with one out, moved to second on a groundout and came home on Deyvison De Los Santos' single to make it a 3-1 game. McDonald though prevented further damage in the inning and then worked around a two-out walk in the top of the fourth to maintain the two-run margin.

San Jose then hit their first homer of the day in the bottom of the fourth to extend the lead. With one out, McCray reached on a bunt single before Williams stepped to the plate and launched a towering 409-foot home run to deep right center. The round-tripper was Williams' sixth of the season and it pushed the Giants lead to 5-1.

After McDonald put up another zero in the top of the fifth, San Jose kept the pressure on with two more runs in the bottom of the inning. A one-out walk to Yorlis Rodriguez followed by a single from Frechette put two runners on base. Then with two down, Arteaga belted a double off the top of the fence in deep left center scoring both Rodriguez and Frechette for a 7-1 cushion. It was Arteaga's 23rd double of the season, tying him for the California League lead.

Hunter Dula relieved McDonald to start the top of the sixth and saw Visalia load the bases with one out on a walk and a pair of singles. Dula though responded with consecutive strikeouts of Jacen Roberson and Jean Walters to end the inning.

In the seventh, with Jose Cruz on the mound, De Los Santos produced a two-out, RBI double to bring the Rawhide within 7-2. The Giants though answered by scoring four times in the bottom of the frame to blow the game wide open. Hayden Cantrelle led off with a triple into the right center field gap and immediately scored when the next batter, Rodriguez, singled. Back-to-back singles from Frechette and Anyesber Sivira then loaded the bases with none out. After Arteaga popped out, McCray came up and drove in his third and fourth runs of the day with a sharp single into right center.

Two batters later, Bericoto's sacrifice fly made it 11-2. San Jose sent all nine hitters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh.

The Giants then capped the scoring in the bottom of the eighth on Frechette's two-run home run to deep right. The homer was Frechette's fourth of the year as the lead stretched to 13-2.

Cruz finished the game out of the San Jose bullpen with three innings of long relief yielding only one run while striking out six.
