GhostRiders get well-deserves rest after big win

March 23, 2007 - World Indoor Football League 2 (WIFL 2)
Osceola Ghostriders News Release

[KISSIMMEE, Fla.] - The Osceola GhostRiders are coming off a huge 57-31 win over in-state rival Daytona Beach Thunder. The GhostRiders jumped out to a 28-14 lead at halftime and never looked back. QB Brandon Sumner lead the way with 222 yards passing and 5 TD's. The GhostRiders swarming defense stopped the league's highest ranked QB by intercepting three Bo Bartik passes.

"Our offense clicked in both the passing game and running game," said GhostRiders head coach Marquette Smith. "Brandon really bounced back from the Columbus game and played up to his potential." Smith has the league's best ground attack and now it appears the aerial assault is gaining momentum. All four GhostRiders WR's James Panui, Lamont Finnie, Darnelius Jones and Luther Huggins all contributed touchdowns. Panui led the team with 97 yards receiving and two touchdowns, but it was Finnie who provided the highlight reel moment of the game. Sumner connected with Finnie on a 35 yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone. The fearless Finnie hauled in the Sumner bomb, tucked the ball safely away and then hit the wall head first all with a Thunder defender draped all over him.

The banged up GhostRiders will use a few days off of practice and a bye week to rest up and heal. Offensive lineman Corey Haynes suffered a mild concussion in the game. Paul Sharpe was held out of action with a hip pointer. And a number of other GhostRiders have the usual bumps and bruises associated with the hard hitting action of indoor football.

The next home game is set for Saturday, March 31 versus the Columbus Lions. The game will kickoff at 7:00 p.m. on IOA Field at the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee. The GhostRiders will look to avenge their only loss of the season when they fell 34-31 at Columbus on March 10.
