Philadelphia KiXX News Release

Philadelphia, PA, January 15, 2007 - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Genoni Martinez was named the League's Defender-of-the-Week for the seven-day period ending January 14. The weekly accolade is the first such honor for Martinez this season and 10th during his nine-year career.

A native of Mexico City, Mexico, Martinez recorded eight points in Philadelphia's January 14 win over I-95 rival and defending champions Baltimore Blast. The first round pick (third overall) in the 2006 Dispersal Draft, Martinez buried two three-point goals and tacked on two assists in the 16-8 victory. Martinez began the scoring less than four minutes into the first quarter, with his third three-pointer of the season, unassisted. In the third stanza, Martinez put the KiXX up by double digits on another three-pointer, set up by fellow defender Drew Kopp. The six-time All-League selection would go on to set up two more Philadelphia goals; a power-play score from player/coach Don D'Ambra, and a restart goal from two-time League MVP Dino Delevski.

The fourth player in MISL history to win the Defender-of-the-Year honor in three separate seasons, Martinez ranks third on the KiXX in points with 23 in just nine games. He leads all KiXX defenders in points (23), three-point goals (4), and assists (7).

Teammates Peter Pappas (Goaltender), Don D'Ambra (Offensive), Pat Morris (Defensive), and Edgar Bartolomeu (Offensive) also received weekly recognition this season. Pappas and D'Ambra have received two weekly honors each, Pappas for the seven-day periods ending December 3 and December 31; D'Ambra for the seven-day periods ending December 11 and December 31. Morris was named the League's Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the seven-day period ending November 12, while Bartolomeu received Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors for the seven-day period ending November 26. Pappas was also honored as Goalkeeper-of-the-Month for December.

The Philadelphia KiXX will take on the Detroit Ignition Saturday, January 20 for third of six meeting this season. Game-time at the Wachovia Spectrum is slated for 7:05 pm ET. The first 2,500 fans to arrive will receive complimentary 2006-07 Team Photos. The entire team will then be on hand following the game to sign autographs.
