Northeast Generals News Release
(Sewell, NJ) - Looking to make it 6 straight wins the Northeast Generals traveled to New Jersey for an NAHL East Division matchup with the Philadelphia Rebels. Toby Hopp started in goal for the generals and played well in the 4-2 win.
With the win the Gens make it 6 straight and improve to 7-5 this season. The Rebels meanwhile fall to 3-5 on the new year.
Scoring opened early in the contest. Just 31 seconds in when Bryce Cooper scored his first of the season from the left side of the blueline. Dave Andreychuk threw the puck into the left corner of the Rebels zone and Ryan Schelling sent it up the boards to Cooper at the line. Cooper held for a moment and threw a shot on net that found its way past Philly netminder Jack Fialkoff.
Despite a plethora of opportunities on both ends of the neither team was able to find the back of the net in the remainder of the opening period carrying a Generals 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Philly tied the game at 1 a piece at the 3:47 mark of the second while on the powerplay. David Deputy and Luke Devries worked together to move the puck to Tyler Stern at the blueline. With a wrist Shot Stern fired the puck into the top of the Generals net for his first goal of the year.
The Rebels then took the lead at 13:52 of the second on the back of a solo effort from Deputy that saw the Jersey native carry the puck from the right side corner, around the circle, and into the slot before firing a shot past a couple of screens and Toby Hopp.
Jackson McCarthy tied the game for the Generals 2-2 1:51 into the final period of regulation with a shot from the left side of the Rebels zone. The Joes' McGraw and Schubert connected with a pass, then the latter found McCarthy with space for his third goal of the campaign.
Moments later at 7:54 Sixten Jennersjö regained the generals lead 3-2 by carrying the puck into the Philly zone on the right side and picking a corner. Cooper and Schelling assisted the goal marking multi-point games for both players.
A strong passing play at the 16:22 extended the generals lead to 4-2 for the generals. Dave Andreychuk had possession of the puck on the right side of the net and carried it across the front of the cage and into the slot. Drawing the defenseman and goalie with him Andreychuk slid the puck to Paul Minnehan who just had to tap it home.
Hopp (3-1-0) made 30 saves of 32 shots against in the winning effort. His counterpart Fialkoff (0-3-0) stopped 21 of the Generals 25 shots.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow Saturday October 8that 7:30 p.m. at the Hollydell Ice Arena.
