LAST GAME: Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals, the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Arizona Diamondbacks, clubbed their way to a win on Saturday, beating the Birmingham Barons 6-3 at The Ballpark at Jackson in a rain-shortened, five-inning contest. The Generals (53-40) used a pair of homers by outfielder Jeffrey Baez to put up the difference-making runs in their eighth straight win, taking their third straight game from Birmingham (41-51).

CHANGE-UP: In anticipation of Tropical Storm Barry's impact on the region, the Generals and Barons have agreed to change their schedules for the next three days. Jackson and Birmingham will play a double-header beginning at 2:05pm CT on Sunday afternoon, after which the Barons will depart because of the expected weather. Once the series concludes on Sunday evening, Jackson will have three days off before playing at Montgomery on Thursday, while Birmingham will have three days to recharge before hosting Tennessee.

TODAY'S PITCHING MATCHUP: Right-hander Emilio Vargas hasn't made a quality start in almost 3 months, dating back to his April 22 appearance at Birmingham (6.0 IP, 2 ER). He gave up six runs in 10.1 innings last series against Chattanooga over two starts and could really use a strong outing as the Generals enter a three-day break. Behind him, Kevin McCanna carries a 3.35 ERA as a starter with Jackson (7 GS), but this will be his first start in two weeks after making two relief appearances against Chattanooga (4.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER). Vargas will match up with wily lefty Matt Tomshaw, who just threw seven shutout innings against Pensacola on July 8. Southpaw John Parke will play McCanna's foil. Strikeouts aren't Parke's forte (24.1 IP, 16 K), but he's unbeaten in 4 AA starts.
